Today’s poetry topic idea is white noise. These are the sounds, either made intentionally or caused by something else, that provide background noise and in some way drown out other noise. These sounds could be rain or a fan or something of that nature. These sounds may help reduce distractions for some people.
Some poetry ideas that could come from this are:
- A poet might write about a conversation that is covered by white noise. They might write about it from the point of view of those having the conversation or from the point of view of those who can’t hear it clearly.
- A poet might write about the sudden absence of white noise. This is what may cause a person to say “It’s too quiet”. A poet could examine this idea of “too quiet” and the idea of background noise in a poem.
- A poet might write about a person using white noise to cover over some sound. For example, a poet might write about a person using white noise to cover over the fighting of two people next door.
- A poet might write a poem that has a white noise effect. They might write a poem with repetitious sounds that has some of the effect.
