A photograph to inspire poetry: caterpillar eating a grape leaf

caterpillar eating a grape leaf

Above is a photograph of a caterpillar eating a grape leaf.  It can inspire poetry.  A poet could write about:

  • Gardening and gardening pests.

  • Eating.

  • Veganism.

  • A time before a change (the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly, moth, or something similar at some point).

  • Damage.

  • Perspective. From the perspective of someone growing grapes, the caterpillar is doing something bad.  From the caterpillar’s perspective, it is doing something good.

Here is a poem inspired by the photograph:

Grape leaves,
are delicious –

stuffed with meat,
and rice,
and spices,
and simmered for a couple of hours.

(Don’t forget,
the lemon juice,
and butter,
at the end.)
