Poem: Thankful

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Day!

Here’s a celebratory poem:

The turkey’s in the oven.
The sage smells good.

The potatoes are boiling.
They’ll be ready soon.

The cranberry sauce is ready.
The orange zest adds a nice touch.

The green beans are prepared.
Maybe lemon pepper would be good?

The rolls are rising.
They are filling the pan.

Before the food though,
take a moment,
to be thankful.

No matter what is happening,
in your life,
there is some good,
somewhere.

Even in bad things,
there can often be meaning,
and sometime later,
you can see what it was.

Think of your life,
and the innumerable moments,
both small and large,
where something good,
has happened.

Think of the good deeds,
others have done.

Think of the times,
when things turned your way.

Think of the little things,
like food at a table,
with your family around.

Life isn’t always easy,
but somewhere,
even in darkness,
there is light.

Think of all of your life,
and be thankful for all that has been.

Think of all of your life,
and be thankful for all that will be.

Being thankful,
is a good thing.

Being thankful,
is humbling.

Being thankful,
is something all should do,
every day.

On this day,
before the food,
take a moment,
and give thanks.

Each day,
at least before the food,
take a moment,
and give thanks.

Happy Thanksgiving.
