Announcement: the last new blog post on this blog

This is the 1600th blog post on this blog.  It is also the last new blog post on this blog.  The About page and the Posts List page should be updated, and some other things might be updated, but this is the last new blog post.

The idea that the last new blog post would be post one thousand six hundred was mentioned in the post from June 29, 2020.  The idea that the blog would be ending was mentioned in the post for the six year anniversary of the blog.

The first post on this blog was posted on April 24, 2014.  It was titled Welcome.  It was posted more than six years ago.  It feels so long ago.

It feels strange to be ending the blog.  After so many posts, it feels odd not to be having anymore.  Some time after the blog was started, posts were posted almost every weekday.  It seems like it will be strange not to have that.  It was a part of most days, and it feels strange that it won’t be.

It’s hard to know what this blog has meant.  Hopefully it has meant something to some readers out there.  Hopefully some thought, laughed, learned something, or were entertained.  Hopefully some liked it.

As said, this is the last new blog post on the blog.  The intention is to keep the blog up for a short time going forward, but then to take it down.  While it is still up please take the time to look at posts.  You can find a list with links to posts on the Posts List page.  The link for this post should be added today.

On the About page, there are links to some of the categories on the blog, and you might look at some posts through those links.

Also, you might take some time to look at the Photographs and Artwork page.  You might like some of what is there.

Thank you to everyone who has read something on this blog.  Hopefully the blog has meant something to some readers.

There is some thought at trying to say something with depth here.  As this is the last new blog post on the blog, and there have been so many posts over such a long time, it seems like it would be fitting.  It seems like the last post should have something with depth.  Depth can be difficult though.  Sometimes trying to have depth doesn’t work out.  Sometimes it just doesn’t come through.

Here is a sentiment written as a poem:

Hopefully this blog
has meant something to some.

Thank you to all readers.

Milestone: Six Year Anniversary

Today is the six year anniversary of the first post on this blog.  Thank you to everyone who has read something on it.

Today there is an announcement.  Although a specific post count or date has not been determined, the plan is to end the blog in the relatively near future.  When a date is chosen, there will be a note on a post or a specific post about it.

Hopefully readers have learned something, been entertained, been inspired, or in some way gotten something from the blog.  Thank you again to everyone who has read something on it.

Here’s a short poem:

Thank you to everyone,
who has read what was here.

Milestone: 1500th post

The blog had its first post on April 24, 2014.  That is almost six years ago.

The blog has been fun.  It has been interesting to come up with ideas and hopefully provide something that readers find useful and enjoy.

On the about page, there is a list of the main blog categories.  You can click them and read posts from each one.

On the posts list page, there is a link to almost every post.  You can click the month of the year and then find posts for that month.

Here’s a poem about the day:

the birds flew
fifteen hundred
on their migratory path
going somewhere
they have never been

Milestone: 1100th Post

This is post 1100 on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.

There is a lot you can find on M. Sakran’s blog.  You can:

As you may know, M. Sakran has a published collection of poetry, First Try, and a self-published eBook of poems with explanations, Understanding: poems with explanations.  You should check out both.

Also, as you may know, M. Sakran has a website:  It has, among other things, sets of photography, artwork, poetry and fiction.

M. Sakran thanks all visitors to the blog, and hopes everyone, has enjoyed, everything.

Here is a poem to mark this milestone:

You stood by the tree
one thousand one hundred leaves
somewhere there are roots.

A Milestone: The 900th blog post

This is the 900th blog post on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.

900 is a lot of posts.  There was a time, a while back, when 70 posts felt like a lot.  There was a sense of not knowing what else could be written about.  Now there are 900 posts.

900 is close to a thousand.  A thousand posts really feels like a lot.

Hopefully, readers of the blog have enjoyed what has been here so far.  Hopefully this blog has been of some use and entertainment.

If anyone wants to look back at past posts, they are organized by date on the Posts List page and there are broad category links on the About page.  If anyone wants to send a message about the blog, use the form on the Contact page.

If you like the blog, please consider liking this posts, following the blog if you don’t and telling your friends about it.

At one of the past milestones, there was a mention that something new might be added to the basic categories of the blog.  There is still some thought about that, but nothing definite.  One idea that is at the front of the list is essays about poetry.  It’s still being thought about.

Again, hopefully everyone has enjoyed the blog.  Thank you to all readers for your reading and other interaction.

A Milestone: The 850th blog post

This is the 850th blog post on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.

To everyone who reads the blog, follows it, likes posts, etc. Thank you.  It is a good feeling to know that there are people out there who actually read this.

Having 850 posts is important.  It is getting close to the very large number of 1000.  1000 feels like a lot.  At one time, having this many posts seemed very far away.  It is somewhat strange to have gotten this far.

As readers should know, and for those who don’t, on the blog there are poems, poems with explanations, poetry topic ideas, photographs to inspire poetry, artwork to inspire poetry, experimental poetry forms, bilingual poems and a number of other things.  If you go to the Posts List page you should find links to all of the posts organized by date.  Hopefully everyone likes the kinds of things that are there.

When the blog was started, there was some notion that it wasn’t going to be a blog of just poems.  There was a sense that there needed to be more.

Also, there was a sense, that this wasn’t going to be a blog that was too personal or followed a strict chronology or was just about daily life.

Additionally, there was a sense, that the blog would have a certain feeling and tone to it.

The idea of the blog was to entertain, inspire, inform, educate, and promote thought.  Hopefully it has done that.  Hopefully the blog that developed has been something readers have liked.

At different times, there have been thoughts of somehow altering or expanding the blog.  One idea (that didn’t work well) was accepting poems for consideration from readers.  Another idea (that hasn’t been tried) was having essays about poetry.  Another idea (again, that hasn’t been tried) was reviewing poetry books.

It is hard to know what the blog will look like in the future.  Although the general idea of being of and about poetry and poetry related things isn’t expected to change, there is some feeling that the blog should change or grow or adapt in some way.  There is some sense that it just somehow needs to be more than it is.  Keep reading.  Who knows, maybe at some point, something will develop.

Again, thank you to all who read this blog.  It really does mean something.  It is a nice feeling to know that, maybe, people out there are getting something from all of this.

If you like the blog and maybe have something you like about it (like the poems with explanations or the poetry topic ideas as examples) then please tell your friends through social media.  The support would be appreciated.

If you have any thoughts about the blog, then please use the form on the Contact Page.  The only thing the form requires is the message and that you click submit, and so if you just want to say something, or express a thought, or just say hello, without really saying anything about yourself, then you can do that.  Hopefully you will.

Again, thank you readers.

In closing, a poem:

Here is a tiny poem,
just because,
this post just needed a poem.

A Milestone: 800th blog post

This is the 800th blog post on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.  The first post was on April 24, 2014.

800 posts is a lot.  It feels like a lot.

There has been a lot on this blog.  There have been poems, poems with explanations, poetry topic ideas, experimental poetry forms, artwork to inspire poetry, photographs to inspire poetry and bilingual poems among other things.  There’s often a sense with each post to have something a little different from what has been there before.  Hopefully there was a sense of having something at least a little new with each post.

There is hope that everyone who has read something on this blog has enjoyed it.  Hopefully you were entertained or thought or were inspired or learned something.  Hopefully something was gained from it.

Thinking back on the posts, it’s hard to say what it all adds up to.  800 posts is a lot to think back on.  There is a sense, that there is something in the totality of it all, as if it were a novel or something, but whatever that something is, it’s hard to describe.

Thank you to anyone who has in any way interacted with this blog.

If you’d like to show your support for the blog, please consider purchasing a copy of the eBook, Understanding: poems with explanations.

As a side note, there is a new set of photography, artwork, poetry and fiction on  The short story in the set examines an interesting philosophical idea: What would it be like to communicate with an entity, if you couldn’t be certain if that entity was a person or a computer?  The idea could be used to inspire poetry.

Again, thank you to everyone who’s interacted with this blog.
