Poem Series: George

In commemoration of the life of George the parakeet, there will be a poem series in her honor.  It will start today and continue for a total of ten posts.  Please think of George.

Here is the first poem

last night,
it just felt so odd,
the cage door had to be closed,
the cage had to be covered,
just like every night,
even though,
there really wasn’t a reason,
it just felt so odd,
not to have done it

Poem Series: Time

It has been a while since there has been a poem series on this blog.  The last one appears to be the poem series: Dogs, which started on January 27, 2016 and ended February 9, 2016.  You can read the poems in that series, as well as in the ones before it, here: poem series.

Today will be the start of a new poem series.  The subject of the poem series will be time.

The series will consist of ten poems.  The poems will be posted in the next nine posts plus this post (for a total of ten), unless some event occurs to supersede the series, in which case the series will continue after the superseding.

Please enjoy the Time poem series.

Here is the first poem:

Looking back,
there’s the thought,
of all the different decisions,
that would be made.

Looking forward,
there’s the thought,
that one day,
will there be looking back,
with the thought,
of all the different decisions,
that would be made?

But in the present,
looking forward,
it’s hard to know,
what looking back,
will see.

Post Series: The Dragonfly Series: Introduction

Poem Series: Dogs

Up to this point, there have been six poem series on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.  They were: Experimental Poetry Forms, The Sun, Tanka poems, Rondeaux poems, Weather, and Space.

Today will be the start of a new poem series.  The poem series will have poems related to dogs.

The series will consist of ten poems.  The poems will be posted in the next nine posts plus this post (for a total of ten), unless some event occurs to supersede the series, in which case the series will continue after the superseding.

Please enjoy the Dogs poem series.

Here is the first poem:

The eyes look away …

turn quietly,
and slip from the harness,

Ha, ha, silly human!

Post Series: The Christmas Series: Introduction with poem

Today is December 1.  Starting today, and through at least December 23rd, there will be a Christmas post series on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things.  This means, that the posts from now through at least December 23rd, will be Christmas related in some way.  The series is called, The Christmas Series.  Counting today’s post, the series will consist of at least seventeen posts.  The series may end on the 23rd, but may continue again starting on the 28th.  If it does, it will continue through January 5th, 2016.  A determination has not yet been made.

The previous post series have been Seven Apples, The Citrus Series, The Tea Series, and The Orange Series.  They can be seen here: Post Series.

To start the series, today’s post has a poem made of a haiku, a tanka, and an iambic tetrameter rhyming couplet put together:

The series starts here,
Christmas posts all in a row,
like Christmas lights on a roof.

Some posts may cause cheer,
some may cause contemplation,
and some may cause both,
like opening wrapped presents,
then helping homeless people.

So sing some songs and have some fun,
and think some thoughts before you’re done.

Post Series: Seven Apples: Stage One

This is the first post of a four post series called Seven Apples.  The series is based around four stages of an artwork.  The artwork is based off of seven different kinds of apples in two rows.  The first stage is a photograph of the apples, the second stage is a black and white drawing of the photograph, the third stage is a colored pencil drawing done over the black and white drawing, and the fourth stage is an acrylic painting done over the colored pencil drawing.

Each of the posts in the series will consist of the artwork at one of the stages, a poem inspired by the artwork at that stage, and a note about how the artwork can inspire poetry.

Here is the first stage:

Seven Apples Stage One

Here is a poem inspired by the artwork at this stage:

the seven apples
are arranged by their sizes
some are green, some red,
tree blossoms from some time past,
dispersed without an order

As can be seen from the poem above, one inspiration from this artwork is the idea of order.  The apples in the photograph are ordered by size.  The idea of this order could inspire poetry about how that order compares to a more random situation, as was done in the poem above.

As a note, the idea for part of the artwork of this post series was actually written about in a previous post.  The post was called Poem Series: Experimental Poetry Forms: Hopping frog: Seven apples, and was from September 29th, 2015.

Poem Series: Experimental Poetry Forms

On M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things, there have been forty experimental poetry forms.  Thirty seven of the forms were by themselves, and three were part of post series.

As a commemoration of having forty experimental poetry forms on this blog, starting with Monday’s post, there will be forty posts, each with a poem, with each poem using one of the forty experimental poetry forms that have been on this blog.  The forms used will follow the order that the forms were shown on this blog.

During the forty posts, there may be some interrupting posts for things like milestones, pending publication items, published items, or something else that requires its own post.

The experimental poetry forms on this blog have been (and this is also the order the forms used will be in):

Post Series: The Tea Series: Poem: No sound, or movement or company

Starting with today’s post, the next series of posts on M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things, will be a post series about tea: The Tea Series.  Two exceptions to The Tea Series will be the post on Friday, September 19th and the post on Monday September 22nd.  Friday’s post will be a special post commemorating a milestone, and Monday’s post will feature a poem from M. Sakran’s collection of poetry entitled First Try.

This is the second post series on this blog.  The first was the recent Orange Series which ended last week.  The Tea Series will have six posts (including this one), and will include: a poem (below), an experimental poetry form, a poetry topic idea, an artwork to inspire poetry, a poem with an explanation and a photograph to inspire poetry.  The posts will appear today, on the 17th, on the 18th, and on the 23rd through the 25th.

Here is the first item in the series:

No sound, or movement or company

On the porch,
as the rain fell,
and steam rose from the cup,
at eight in the morning,
looking outside,
at the empty yard,
there was no sound,
or movement,
or company.

Sitting in the chair,
taking a sip,
as the dog slept,
in his house,
there was no sound,
or movement,
or company.

After four days,
of driving,
of calling,
of asking,
of disappointment,
sitting in the chair,
as the rain fell,
taking a sip,
there was no sound,
or movement,
or company.

There was one dog,
in his house,
as tea was sipped,
on the porch,
in the rain.

But there in the yard,
where there had been,
there was no sound,
or movement,
or company.

Post Series: The Orange Series

On M. Sakran’s blog of and about poetry and poetry related things, there are a number of types of posts, including:

Poems,
Experimental poetry forms,
Poetry topic ideas,
Artwork to inspire poetry,
Poems with explanations, and
Photographs to inspire poetry.

As of yesterday’s post, each of these types of posts has had ten posts each. In light of this milestone, a new type of set of posts will be added.

The next six posts, with the exclusion of Monday’s post (which will have a poem from M. Sakran’s collection of poetry entitled First Try), will be part of a post series. While there have been series’ of poems on this blog, there has not been a series that encompassed different types of posts. This will be the first of that type of series.

This series will be The Orange Series. The Orange Series will focus on orange and orange will in some way influence each of the next six posts (with the exclusion of Monday). There will be one post each from each of the types of posts listed above.

Please enjoy The Orange Series.
